Housing

Every person has the right to housing; the housing situation is becoming increasingly precarious, especially in cities. There is an urgent need for sensible measures to fight against the housing crisis.

  • Create the right of first refusal for cantons and municipalities
Above all, the high land prices make it impossible to rent urban apartments cheaply. Cantons and municipalities should be given a right of first refusal for building land in order to ensure enough building land for affordable housing.

  • Promote collectively managed housing
Volt believes in the advantages of housing cooperatives, which are increasingly available in the city of Zurich. This creates an opportunity for exchange in the neighbourhood.

  • Mitigate the “Airbnb effect”.
Stronger action should also be taken against apartment rental platforms such as Airbnb. At the moment it is extremely worthwhile to rent out an apartment in the city of Zurich on Airbnb, and this must definitely be counteracted.

The 5+1 challenges

Volt has defined 5+1 fundamental challenges that need to be addressed in every European country and in Europe as a whole.

Why 5 + 1 challenges?

The 5 challenges are essentially the same for each country, but their implementation can be adapted at the national level to take into account local circumstances.

Challenge No. +1 - our proposal to reform and strengthen the EU - is identical in all our national programs. Here in Switzerland, our relations with the EU are the focus.
